CCStoBIM
INTRODUCTION
The CCStoBIM
tool is an integrated railway design system based on intelligent
technology aimed at incorporating railway signaling data (module 1, 2,
3, 4, 5) into an infrastructure design, using BIM (Building Information
Modeling) technology (module 6), covering both 2D and 3D, and operating
interchangeably between the two while maintaining perfect data
alignment. CCStoBIM can be used on international systems by adapting
railway symbols and modifying, upon request, the rules for railway
operations through customized evolutionary maintenance.
THE PRODUCT
The CCStoBIM tool consist of 6 modules:
- ACC Schematic Plan Editor –
an unscaled representation of the tracks and station entities based on
the station layout. The tool provides a user-friendly graphical
interface for editing tracks and station entities. The edited Schematic
Plan is made with graphics standardized to the reference railway
signaling, following the regulations issued by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana s.p.a.
- Design Verification Task for the ACC Schematic Plan –
the tool provides a graphical interface listing applicable tests. The
user can run a sequence of tests or individual tests. Each test checks
the consistency of the design with the specified regulations. A
positive result ensures the correct design of the previously edited or
imported Schematic Plan. The regulatory references for Italy are issued
by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana s.p.a.
- Computation and Estimation Task
– the tool allows the user to define prices (variable by year) and
calculation methods for the estimation in standard XML format. The tool
automatically generates the computation and estimation for the entire
edited project.
- Generation of Control Table Task –
the tool has automatic functionalities for generating Control Tables.
These tables define the rules for railway operations ensuring safe
movement of trains and rolling stock, in compliance with the
regulations issued by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana s.p.a.
- Simulation Task
– This tool automatically defines the maneuvering capabilities of
trains and ensures their safety. The tool simulates train movements,
interacting with project data to obtain the optimal route (selected
from pre-calculated options). For incompatible train routes, the tool
automatically identifies the precise point to resolve the
incompatibility. The scenario is simulated with real-time video output
and a corresponding train graph (spatial-temporal coordinates).
- BIM Export Task
– the tool supports the transition from 2D to 3D BIM using the open IFC
format (Industry Foundation Classes), promoting openBIM for
interoperability across different software. The IFC file ensures
compatibility across 3D BIM software and supports reverse processing,
such as re-importing modified 3D BIM data back into the 2D schematic
plan.

At the end of the transition from 2D to 3D-BIM, it also guarantees
the reverse process, since the file could, for reasons related to the
design, undergo any changes, e.g. moving entities, data changes,
progressive variations, etc. For this eventuality and automatically,
the software provides for the re-importation of the data modified in
3D-BIM into the Schematic Plan- 2D.
This
feature provides significant innovation in railway engineering,
reducing design costs and automating requirements for the new BIM
regulations effective January 1, 2025 (D.M. 560/2017 and D.M. 312/2021).
